It does use selective sync as a first step, but it does not have its biggest limitation. This workaround prevents Dropbox to synchronise the content of any folder. node_module issue: read my comment of the 15/09, which I report below. For the difference between symlink and junction see google or e.g.For all those with the. This also breaks when renaming the target folder. Which also works but makes not obvious difference for a user. I also tried a directory junction instead: mklink /J not-foobar C:\temp\actually-foobar Note that renaming actually-foobar will break the symlink. This will show up as not-foobar in onedrive and sync changes in both directions as far as my quick test can tell. Onedrive does honor directory symlinks, so you can do something like this in your onedrive directory (as Administrator): mklink /D not-foobar C:\temp\actually-foobar Just create clean directories in onedrive yourself. I will probably switch to not using the Documents folder because of this since there is too much crap in that directory. This will prevent you from editing any Google Docs. The major drawback is: Onedrive will now complain and mark each of these folders as conflicted, but it will not upload local files. Stop Syncing via Google Drive on Browser The first and simplest way to stop your files from syncing is to turn it off in your browser. Changes in the directory will no longer be uploaded.
