Livia had a fair amount of respect for him for rising so high in the ranks as a Roegadyn and for his dedication to Gaius, but undoubtedly the best thing about Rhitatyn was that he didn’t outrank her. In a word, she would have described him as ‘insufferable’. Part of it was jealousy because he was close to Gaius and held a higher rank than her, and part of it was simply due to incompatible personalities. As she entered adulthood, one of her greatest fears was that he would still see her as a child, not a woman. She was infatuated with him from the start, and as she grew up, that feeling matured into something deeper. However, Gaius was never an adoptive father for her he was far too distant to fill any such role and existed more as a benefactor in her life than a parental figure. Gaius took Livia into his household after her parents died when she was 13 years old.
